Making a List… and Checking it Twice!

Nac Naz Morning Devotional

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

Every year, I make a Christmas list with every family member I am going to buy a present for. Beside each name, I have ideas of what that person may like, or the goal in mind. With every purchase, I cross off that name. Bam. Done!

I have the list on my phone in case I find a gift while I’m out with Jess shopping and I can mark it off. I like having my list, I like making the plan, and sticking to the plan. Plans are good. I like to plan. (I’m a nerd, I know, who are my list makers)? 🙂

I need to be just as concerned daily with “God’s list” for my life; carrying His life plan for me in my heart and mind as I live each day, constantly making choices and decisions based off of the Gospel. His life. His plan. Getting all that I can daily for the Kingdom. But, just knowing the plan God has for me does not guarantee my success. I must execute the plan. I have to follow though. That is where the choice to obey comes in. An obedient heart is a “confident” heart and may very well be the gift God wants from us this holiday season. Confident in Him and His plan.

“My heart is confident in you, Oh God.” – Psalm 108:1

“I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your law is written on my heart.” – Psalm 40:8

A “confident” heart is a determined heart, a focused heart, a driven heart. On God. His will. His plan. His purpose. When we choose to follow God’s plan, the desires of our heart will line up in obedience to that plan. His plan. We will find our greatest joy in serving God, loving God, and loving others. We will find our greatest joy in doing His will because that is what you and I were created to do.

Maybe today is a good time to stop, go back over the list, slow down. Let’s review those life lessons we have learned. Review 2020. Check to see where we really are in our walk with God. Ask God to search you. Are we serving Him with a confident heart today?
